There’s suffering for your art and then there’s suffering for your art, and for the Lostprophets latest video, singer Ian Watkins literally took it on the chin.

In our exclusive interview with Lostprophets guitarist Michael Lewis, he tells us that the video for ‘Bring ‘Em Down‘ was quite possibly the best they’ve ever made. The clip itself finds singer Ian Watkins strapped to a chair and taking a severe beatdown from a female leader and her group of henchmen. But just like the song suggests, he’s ready to “bring it down” by maintaining whatever leverage he has left and holding his ground.

Just when it seems like the female antagonist is about to finally break the singer, he’s got one final trick up his sleeve (and a hand free behind his back). What ensues is a full-on band melee against the henchmen amidst a smoke screened room leading to Watkins’ escape.

Lewis tells us, “It was possibly one of the most fun videos we’ve done. We purposely wanted to do a video with no performance. We’ve done so many performance videos and it’s so boring and it’s so done. And the way that music videos are done, they’re not really on TV anymore, so you don’t have to think about that. People watch music videos online, so it kind of gives you a little bit more freedom to do what you want. Ian headbutts a girl. Imagine MTV ever playing that? So it gives you a little more artistic freedom to do what you want to do without worrying about that.”

The guitarist says the favorite part for him was the fight training. He reveals, “It all had to be kind of blocked out and we had to be taught how to fight on camera, which was a lot of fun. We had the stunt coordinators from the ‘Dark Knight.’”

Of course with that expertise on hand, the guys weren’t going to let it go to waste. The guitarist laughs, “Two of the guys came down and taught us how to fight and we’re all movie nerds as well so we spent half the day asking them questions about Christian Bale and all this other stuff.” In the end, Lewis says it was a different type of video shoot for the band, but one that they fully embraced.

‘Bring ‘Em Down’ is featured on the Lostprophets’ new album, ‘Weapons,’ which is due in stores in the U.S. on June 19. Look for the band this summer on the Vans Warped Tour, and stay tuned for a full interview with Michael Lewis.
