There's that little thing called a "straw man" that people bring to an argument. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes its bad. With the possibility of some Syrian refugees coming to the U.S., some people are saying we should take care of our vets first.

Well okay, I agree 100% with you. Never mind that I didn't see you saying jack squat about the problem until another problem surfaced, but I say let's do it.

There are decommissioned military bases all over the U.S. One or more of these could easily be outfitted as a home for homeless veterans.  They would already have the barracks, the mess halls, the medical facilities and everything necessary. Since most are on huge tracts of land the vets could farm and grow some of their own food. There would be plenty of exercise areas and even fences for nightly lock ins.  If we can afford to go to war, we can afford to take care of these veterans.  I guess we have to decide what vets are eligible, and since I firmly believe that people will bitch about them getting a "free ride" eventually, I say we go with ANY veteran that has been in a combat zone. I think we can all agree that those veterans deserve a little more leeway and a little more consideration when they come back home.

I'm all for this. I'll push the fundraisers, pay the tax increase and sponsor a vet. I'll lead drives to take them clothes and cards from kids at Christmas. I'll do whatever it takes to support a program like this. My question is, will you? Or did you just use this as an excuse to not help anyone else?  Let's deal with this problem NOW while it is on everyones mind, that way the vets can go from being treated like an excuse, to being treated like human beings.
