A new study says legalizing medical marijuana reduces obesity. Researchers from San Diego State and Cornell University found that passing a medical marijuana law is :associated with 2 to 6 percent decline in the probability of obesity statewide."

Researchers admit this goes against the well-known incidence of the munchies. You know, that overwhelming hunger for high-calorie snacks some encounter after smoking weed — Ding dongs, Twinkies and a whole pizza. They say one possible explanation could be increased physical activity by people whose chronic pain is relieved by weed.

The researchers say they found that medical marijuana laws match with an "increase in physical wellness and frequent exercise" in older adults. The study is published in the journal of Health Economics.
