LCD Soundsystem‘s farewell documentary, ‘Shut Up and Play the Hits,’ was screened in theaters last month for just one night only, but fans who missed the very limited engagement are in luck. Plans to release the film on Oct. 9 as a three-disc Blu-ray and DVD collection have been announced.

Each set will contain the film itself, plus complete footage of the band’s last-ever concert, which took place on April 2, 2011, at New York’s Madison Square Garden. ‘Shut Up and Play the Hits’ is being released via Oscilloscope and is currently available for pre-order through frontman James Murphy’s own DFA Records website here.

Murphy announced that he was putting LCD Soundsystem to bed after just a decade together back in February of 2011 with one single farewell show at MSG, then added four warm-up shows ahead of the gig after scalpers drove up the price of tickets to astronomical levels. That final concert lasted nearly four hours and concluded with an epic version of ‘New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down’ — all of which was documented on ‘Play the Hits.’

To be honest, we wouldn’t be surprised if LCD Soundsystem do indeed get back together at some point in the future — pretty much most successful indie bands eventually seem to do it — but it could be long time before that happens. In the meantime, this documentary is the best way to relive the band’s awesome live show.
