The beloved Professor Layton, purveyor of puzzles, riddles and brain teasers, has been adventuring for six games. The seventh mystery, called Layton 7, will feature a few differences.

According to Polygon, a post on NeoGAF summarizes some of the details that were announced at Level 5's Vision 2013 conference. We'll see the series go in a "brand new direction," and will be able to enjoy more role-playing aspects.

Fans will be able to step into the shoes of a cast of characters as they make their way through a small 3D city, presumably to solve mysteries and puzzles. The cast includes a cab driver, a mustachioed businessman, a young boy, and elderly man, a little puppy, an aristocratic-looking young lady and... a zombie?

Layton 7 will be launch on multiple platforms, making its way to the Nintendo 3DS, iOS and Android. There's no word on when Layton 7 will be released, but we'll update you as more information is made available.

In the meantime, let us know what you think of the new direction the series is taking and whether or not you welcome the changes.
