Layne Staley Memorial Fund To Raise Money for Good Cause Through Seattle Marathon
The Layne Staley Memorial Fund, hosted by Therapeutic Health Services (THS), will be raising charitable funds to participate in the annual Amica Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon on Nov. 25, 2012. Each assembled team selects a local Seattle charity to run for, allowing local athletes to run for their cause of choice.
The Layne Staley Memorial Fund was started in 2002 by Layne’s parents. After receiving donations from fans around the world, they felt the fund and working with THS was a way of “partnering with Layne on the next step in his work” explaining, “He was very honest with people about the effects of drug use, urging them not to follow in his footsteps. Those were the messages in his songs, endearing him to his fans.” With a mission to “provide hope, education, support and treatment funds for heroin recovery in the Seattle music community,” the fund has had a lasting impact on the community throughout its tenure.
Fans and supporters can donate to the cause or join the team running in the marathon here.
Layne Staley passed away in April of 2002 from a heroin and cocaine overdose after many struggles with addiction throughout his career.
