Korn Post Official Colombia Video Footage Featuring Fill-In Bassist Tye Trujillo

Korn are currently touring South America, but there’s been a bit of alteration in their lineup. Instead of the familiar Fieldy rocking hard on his bass, there’s a smaller but powerful fill-in handling the spot for the band. Tye Trujillo, the 12-year-old son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, is handling the bass duties and he recently made his concert debut with the band during a show in Bogota, Columbia. Though fan-shot footage recently surfaced, Korn just issued a professionally shot video package primarily focusing on young Tye’s day with the band.

Soundtracked by the song “Falling Away From Me,” you get to see the pre-teen stringing his bass, getting a few last minute tips from dad and meeting with Korn ahead of the performance. He also posed with the life size tattered doll mascot from the Issues album that would make an appearance during the show.

After the pre-show festivities, Tye is seen holding his own with the elder members of Korn onstage, even offering some impressive hair flips and jumping with the rest of the band to the beat of the song. Meanwhile, Robert Trujillo can be seen as the proud papa at the side of the stage with his cell phone taking shots and video of his son. See it all play out in the video above.

Robert Trujillo told Brazil’s GloboPlay, “I never forced him on music. I always felt that if he wanted to embrace an instrument, great; I’d try to help him with it. So initially, at first, it was drums. And then around that same time, when he was one, he had a little plastic guitar, and he would play it all the time, just strumming it — always strumming it everywhere, to the point where the plastic was worn down.”

He continued, “It’s a beautiful thing, ’cause he’s still a 12-year-old, and he still acts wild and crazy, as a twelve-year-old should, but when it comes to music, he’s very focused. And with Korn, it’s funny, because I haven’t shown him anything at all for the Korn stuff — I’ve been too busy and I’ve been out of town a lot — and he’s taking this opportunity very serious.”

Tye’s stint with Korn is a brief one as Fieldy was unable to make the South American tour. However the bassist will return with the band’s May 6 show at the Carolina Rebellion. Tye, meanwhile, has his own band when not playing with Korn. The Helmets previously performed at Lollapalooza and are off to a bright start.
