Good news to report today regarding King’s X drummer Jerry Gaskill’s health: The stickman, who suffered a heart attack on Feb. 26 and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery, is on the upswing, according to a few positive updates from King’s X frontman Dug Pinnick.

Pinnick recently shared the good news on Facebook that Gaskill was moved out of intensive care and to a more normal environment. “Jerry was moved to a regular room today,” he said. “He still has the trach, but hasn’t had to be on the ventilator in the past two days. He had a physical therapy assessment today so tomorrow I should know what the next steps are for rehab. He is doing really well so far!”

Gaskill, in fact, was feeling good enough to dial his band buddy on phone! “I was walking to the grocery store a few minutes ago, as I was walking out the store my cell phone rang, the ID said Jerry Gaskill!!!” Pinnick said on Facebook. “He was calling from the hospital to say hi and that he’s going to be alright. He sounded great! Totally understated everything he’s been thru and mentioned how thankful he was for all the support so far. He made me laugh like he always does, it’s a great day!!! That black flag has lifted and everyday he will get better.”

In support of his friend, Pinnick wrote a song that pays tribute to his longtime band mate and comrade. Listen to the song, accompanied by a video mosaic featuring live footage of Gaskill rocking the skins, by clicking here.
