For whatever reason, the past couple days have been rife with Joseph Gordon-Levitt casting rumors. He's been mentioned for 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' and 'Godzilla' but it turns out his next project is none of the above. He's now signed on for 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.'

And -- according to Deadline Hollywood -- Gordon-Levitt is officially out of the running for 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' Though we don't doubt that JG-L was offered the part, it would seem likely that contracts for superhero movies have gotten more rigid, and with the strong possibility that Gordon-Levitt could appear in 'Man of Steel' and/or 'Justice League' it always seemed unlikely that he would be able to do both a big Marvel and DC franchise.

'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' has begun shooting, so that suggests Gordon-Levitt will have a smaller role in the film, but it sounds like casting hasn't even finished. Knowing the way Robert Rodriguez makes films it's hard to say for sure, though he is playing a character named Johnny, a role originally offered to Johnny Depp. Going by wikipedia, the best result is this:

Johnny, a middle-aged man who falls in love with a sweet girl named Amy, and in order to finally be with her, he must kill her controlling father. Unfortunately, he falls victim to Amy and "Daddy's" sick sexual role-playing.

Amy and Daddy; Amy seduces Johnny and convinces him to kill her "father", so that they can be happy together. Johnny is lured into Amy's sick trap, as "Daddy" is really her lover, and Amy's victims are used to get a rise out of "Daddy"

'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' is due to hit theaters October 4.
