Show us that smile again Mrs. Maggie Seaver! Everyone remembers Joanna Kerns as the beautiful matriarch of the Seaver family but few people realize her achievements in directing.

Kerns got her start in show business as a dancer before turning to acting. She attended UCLA and majored in dance. After a short time in NY, Kerns moved back to California in 1972 and found work as a backup dancer at Disneyland. She began going on auditions for TV commercials and acting roles.

Kerns landed roles on some of the most popular TV shows of all time including ‘The A-Team,’ ‘Starsky & Hutch,’ ‘Street Hawk,’ ‘Laverne and Shirley,’ ‘Three’s Company,’ ‘Hill Street Blues,’ ‘The Love Boat,’ ‘Magnum P.I.’ and ‘Hunter.’  In 1984, Kerns landed the role of Maggie Seaver and might have been the very first TV example of a MILF (our opinion).

After ‘Growing Pains,’ Kerns started directing and directed episodes of shows like ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ ‘Scrubs,’ ‘Private Practice,’ ‘Psych,’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Army Wives.’ She occasionally still acts, making appearances in movies like Girl, Interrupted and Knocked Up.

So, we wonder, is Joanna Kern still the hot mom we all remember from Growing Pains?
