I got the rather terse "take it of leave it" letter from Netflix today that I'm sure so many of you have seen. I took their initial offer only because it was a "deal" and now that the "deal" is done, so am I. read more after the break.

So, I signed up for the "all you can stream plan from Netflix for $7.99 a month. It was a pretty good deal, but what you soon find out is the library is really kind of weak unless you have special interests. I could, for instance, watch a lot of "B" horror movies and some t.v. shows, but it seemed there was HUGE lack of 'A' material of any type. Then along comes an offer, I could have one d.v.d. out a month for just two dollars more. Well, that pretty much takes care of the "A" material, so I'm up to $9.99 a month. The price for the one d.v.d. a month seemed low, but I figured they were making up for the crappy online selection. Now they're "offering" me a $15.98 plan to replace the $9.99 plan, an increase of $6. That's an increase of $72 bucks a year. Now $72 more bucks may not seem much to you, but the amount of the increase to me is galling. Has your salary increased by 2/3rds this year? Mine neither, and right now I'm going to cancel my Netflix. I'd pay a reasonable increase, this one is not reasonable. I don't see why anybody would stand for this much of an increase on an "optional" service. If gas went from $3.33 to $4.33 or even $4 tomorrow you'd be pissed! If "taco Tuesday" at your favorite restaurant went from $3.99 to $5.99, you'd think twice before going every Tuesday.

So long Netflix, I'm going to get off my lazy ass and program my TIVO properly.
