It's tough being a voice that goes against the grain in Lubbock. Certainly not as tough as standing over a hot fryer or catching criminals, but it can be a little hard on the ego on occasions.

It would be really easy to be three times as popular in the Hub. I could spend a little time with the Fox News Network or listening to Rush Limbaugh and then just vomit out the sameness that I hear come out of so many mouths.  That's just not me though.

Not only do a truly believe in a lot of progressive causes like gay rights and clean water, I also just hate bullies. The U.S. Constitution hate's bullies too. It's protects a large majority from walking over smaller groups.  It's amazing how many people forget about that when they want their way.

This weekend, within 30 minutes of each other I had two listeners approach me. The first was a gentleman who said I had "done more for gay rights than any body in West Texas".  I was quick to tell him, I don't think so, but if I've done a thousandth of what he thinks then I'm pretty proud. The other person thanked me for sharing my opinions online. She said she wished she could but she was an attorney in town (with the implication that its bad for business).

So anyways, I don't really write with any hope of changing too many minds. I write for those people who feel like they aren't being heard.  I would hope by this time that the people who are stuck in their ways have moved along, for me it's rewarding enough to write for those who enjoy reading it.

Thanks to both of you two, for the inspiration.
