HTC Wants Half-Life on Its New VR Headset, the Vive

If HTC is hoping to play Half-Life 3 on its new Vive virtual reality headset, they'll have to get in line and wait like everyone else.

GameSpot reports that HTC chairwoman Cher Wang mentioned in an interview with the BBC that her company would like to see Half-Life and other hit Valve titles on the Vive virtual reality headset. The HTC Vive was made in collaboration with Valve, which innovated the first-person shooter genre many times with the likes of Portal and Team Fortress. Wang originally danced around the question until she was pressed about bringing Half-Life and other Valve titles over to the HTC Vive.

"We are cooperating with Half-Life, and I think... I hope, you know, it will be on it," Wang said.

We'd love to see a VR port of any version of Half-Life, whether it be Episode Two, the original game or the illusive Half-Life 3, which has been under development for many years. If Valve is serious about the Vive headset, having Half-Life 3 debut on it would be one of the most enticing ways of selling its new VR product (and to inspire most of the PC gaming community to start reaching for the pitchforks and torches). While Valve did add Oculus Rift support to Half-Life 2 a couple years ago, we can't wait to see what the company starts doing with HTC's VR rig. We're sure both Valve and HTC will have a lot of Vive tech and software to showoff next week at the Game Developers Conference, so let's hope Half-Life 3 is included.
