Hate Eternal's Erik Rutan Covers Philadelphia Eagles Fight Song

Producer and multi-instrumentalist Erik Rutan grew up in New Jersey and made a name for himself in the Florida death metal scene, playing with Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal and producing local Florida bands from his studio (located in the Sunshine State). So, what's the guy doing creating a metal rendition of the Philadelphia Eagles' fight song, "Fly Eagles Fly" Instead of doing something for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Miami Dolphins? Or even Jersey's own Giants or Jets?

As it turns out, Rutan has always followed the Eagles. "You see, for us Eagles fans, loyalty for our team means everything to us — sharing that same devotion we have for Ozzy or Slayer, or any of our longtime favorite bands,” Rutan wrote after the Eagles won the Superbowl. “Football brings us tears of joy and dreams of hope. It brings us pure grief and utter rage. It evokes emotion in the surreal way that music does.”

Rutan's version adds heavy marching beats and chugging staccato guitars to accompany the crowd's vocals.

Rutan is the owner of Mana Recording Studios in Saint Petersburg, Florida and has recently produced albums by Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Tombs and others.
