With the Halloween season quickly approaching, it's time to start thinking about what you want to do when All Hallows Eve gets here. Regardless of age, there's something for everyone around the Abilene area, making Halloween one of the most active holidays.

    Boo at the Zoo


    Boo at the Zoo is a really cool event that provides a safe,fun Trick or Treat experience for the families of Abilene and the Big Country. Local businesses provide treat stops along a path through the Abilene Zoo.

    • Boo at the Zoo takes place Saturday, October 22nd from 1pm-7pm, with ticket sales ending at 6:30pm.
    • Ticket prices are $2.50 in advance (between Sept 1 and October 21 by 5 pm) and $3.00 on October 22.
    • The zoo will be closed to the public the morning of Boo, for event set-up.

    Mall Fall Festival


    Michelle Parker, of the Mall of Abilene, says the annual Fall Festival is scheduled for Thursday, October 27th from 6-8pm at the Women's Dillard's Courtyard. Local organizations will be set up to provide games, candy and prizes. The mall also plans to host a Costume Contest too. During this time, retailers may pass out candy if they so choose. This is definitely an event that is fun, safe, and family friendly event.

    Fall Festival at Area Churches


    Another great way to entertain your little goblins this time of year is to take them to area churches for their Fall Festival and/or Trunk or Treat. You might think about hitting more than one so your kid is sure to have enough candy and treats to justify 3 dental visits this year.

    Halloween Parties at Local Bars

    As with everywhere else, Halloween is a big night for costume parties at the local bars. Some bars have their parties the weekend before Halloween, some have it on Halloween and some do both. Regardless, you're pretty much guaranteed to find a costume contest in every bar or club you visit.

    The Paramount Halloween Film


    For years and years, The Paramount Theater would show The Changeling on and around Halloween but they have recently changed that tradition. This year, The Paramount will be showing Stephen King's horror/thriller movie "Carrie". You'll be able to catch it on October 29th and 31st.

    • 10/31 at 7:30pm

    This is a great way to spend a frightful evening. Tickets for this event are only $6.

    Area Haunted Houses

    The number of area haunted houses has dwindled down just a bit over the years, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. In my opinion, I think the remaining haunted houses are the strongest and most frightening of any we've had in years.
