Green Day were scheduled to play a show in Bologna, Italy tonight (September 2) but were forced to cancel after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was hospitalized.

Although Armstrong’s cause of illness was not disclosed, drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt posted the video below delivering a personal message to fans.

The forty second clip kicks off with Mike Dirnt talking to the camera with a message to the fans in Italy, saying, “We apologize profusely, this is really unfortunate, but Billie got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness.” He continues, “The doctors don’t think it’s a good idea for him to play today. This sucks, we really really were looking forward to playing in Bologna as the highlight of our tour.”

Tre Cool chimes in as well, sharing his disappointment, explaining, “We’re beyond devastated, we’re as sad as you guys are.” He also notes Armstrong’s feelings about it, saying, “Billie is extremely upset about it and we’ll see you very soon.”

The two close out the clip, saying, “We apologize but we love you guys and we’ll be back as soon as we can.”

No word yet on what Armstrong was rushed to the hospital for but here’s wishing him a speedy recovery.

Green Day’s next show is the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nev. on Sept. 21.
