Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 6 will be released before the year is over, giving PlayStation 3 fans another reason to race around tracks and stare at photorealistic vehicles. But before they take to the tracks, they'll have to download a large, day one patch.

An article on Eurogamer features a quote from Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of Gran Turismo 6, hinting that a large patch will be available at launch for the game's multiplayer components.

"I can be almost certain that there'll be a day one patch applied," Yamauchi said. "The online features are already working - we'll be updating it with a day one patch, and we're still overflowing with stuff we'd like to do. So I think the day one patch will be a fairly large patch."

He cites the tight development schedule as the reason why some things won't be included on-disk at launch, leading them to update the game on day one in order to patch in some of the features they wanted to include, but couldn't because of time constraints.

Because of the constant updates Gran Turismo games receive, Yamauchi hinted perhaps the series would become a service in the future, instead of a boxed product.

Gran Turismo 6 will be released worldwide on Dec. 6 for the PlayStation 3.
