We’re just hours from Gotham wrapping up a season that brought us Bat-villains like Hugo Strange, Mr. Freeze and Clayface, but will Season 3 delve even deeper into the prepubescent Dark Knight’s rogues? Producers confirm some rumored additions like the Mad Hatter and more members of the Court of Owls, perhaps even Vicki Vale.

Ahead of tonight’s season finale “Transference,” executive producer John Stephens confirmed to ComicBookResources that the multiple Mad Hatter references would indeed bear fruit in Season 3, introducing us to Gotham’s take on Batman villain Jervis Tetch. Additionally, the Court of Owls would likely introduce us to specific member Talon, while a more true-to-comics Solomon Grundy than Arrow offered might also surface:

We’ll be seeing Mad Hatter in Season 3. We’ll be seeing the Tweedle Brothers, too, if we’re going to bring the Hatter in. In line with the Court of Owls, we’ll be seeing Talon. And, we should be seeing Solomon Grundy.

A Mad Hatter appearance also tracks with TVLine’s casting report on three upcoming characters, the first likely to represent the Alice in Wonderland-themed villain, with the last potentially nodding to Bruce Wayne love interest Vicki Vale:

The series regulars being added include a villain who “learns people’s secrets and manipulates them to do his bidding” (which sounds like the previously rumored arrival of The Mad Hatter) and a young villainess “who uses her sexuality to entrap men” (a la Joan Collins’ Siren on the 1960s Batman series?). There’s also the recurring role of an ambitious young journalist named “Valerie” — which we’d like to think is casting-call code for Vicki Vale, though her late-20s age range makes her markedly older than Master Bruce.

There are at least a few more surprises in store by tonight’s Gotham finale, but given how measurably the series embraced its weirder side in Season 2, could Season 3 up the ante even further? What other Batman characters could conceivably make sense at such an early stage of Bruce’s life?
