We currently live in a world where society has stopped blinking incredulously at the mere idea of major film franchises based on the dumb toys you used to play with back in the ‘80s. So, it’s not too surprising that Hasbro is apparently examining the possibility of a big screen ‘GoBots’ revival.

The news comes to us from (where else?) Transformers World, who did some digging and discovered that Hasbro has applied for a brand new GoBots trademark. It doesn’t confirm anything, but it does suggest that the company is exploring its options:

On January 21st and on January 24th, Hasbro has applied for a new Go-Bots trademark (this is not a renewal) under "distribution of motion pictures, ongoing television programs" and "Toys, games and playthings, namely, toy vehicles and accessories for use therewith".

Hasbro has steadily become a major Hollywood player over the past eight years, using their recognizable licenses to create major movie franchises like ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ as well as smaller, more moderately budgeted hits like ‘Ouija.’ They already have ‘Jem and the Holograms’ in the pipeline and a ‘Candyland’ movie is happening. They may be doing the devil’s work, but you can’t accuse them of not getting sh*t done.

Of course, the biggest hurdle to overcome with a ‘GoBots’ movie is that GoBots suck. They’ve always sucked. The kids who got GoBots for Christmas were the ones getting laughed at by Transformers fans on the playground. Heck, even the guys working on ‘Transformers: The Animated Series’ knew they were working on the good one. People look back on Optimus Prime with rose-colored glasses. People look back on GoBots and shrug.

You know what, Hasbro? Go ahead and make your ‘GoBots’ movie. If you can get the rapidly aging ‘80s kids to care, we’ll buy you a Coke or something.
