As previously reported, Franz Ferdinand were set to unveil new music during their mini-tour in Ireland this past weekend. Franz were in Limerick, Ireland this past Saturday (May 19) and played four new songs.

The tracks are called ‘Right Thoughts,’ ‘Brief Encounters,’ ‘Fresh Strawberries’ and ‘Trees and Animals.’ They will be included on the Scottish rockers’ forthcoming album, which is expected to be released later this year. The as-yet-untitled disc is the follow-up to 2009′s ‘Tonight: Franz Ferdinand.’

The group also paid tribute to the late Donna Summer, who died of cancer last week. They did an abbreviated cover of the legendary singer’s hit song ‘I Feel Love.’

NME reports that the whole set consisted of 17 songs and also included fan favorites like the anthem ‘Take Me Out,’ ’The Dark of the Matinee’ and ‘This Fire.’ Franz Ferdinand will continue to stay on the road, hitting up practically every music festival in the world. Their next stop is Cultura Inglesa Festival in San Paulo, Brazil on May 27. The band’s only U.S. date this year is Lollapalooza in Chicago, Ill. on August 3.

In related news, frontman Alex Kapranos called Britpop icons Oasis boring during a recent Twitter rant. “Never cover Oasis. Never forget your friends. Always have a laugh,” the musician advised.
