Former Naughty Dog Creative Director Joins Visceral Games for New Star Wars Project

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Writer and creative director Amy Hennig has gone from Uncharted territory to a galaxy far, far away.

According to EA’s The Beat blog, Amy Hennig has joined Visceral Games to work on a new Star Wars game for Electronic Arts. Visceral vice president and general manager, Steve Papoutsis, has publicly stated the following: “Amy has long been recognized as one of our industry’s top visionaries, and is coming off an amazing run as the Writer and Creative Director of the Uncharted franchise.”

“But her contributions go beyond the games she helped create at Naughty Dog and at Crystal Dynamics, where we worked together many years ago. As both a colleague and friend, I’ve always admired her approach to creative development — focusing on nailing down the soul of a game first, and then making sure the writing, the gameplay, the design and the art comes together to form a unified, interactive experience for the player,” Papoutsis added. “This fits in perfectly with what we’re trying to do here at Visceral and Amy’s going to help us continue in our pursuit to make the most thrilling, immersive games in the world.”

Visceral Games is primarily known for its work developing the Dead Space trilogy along with Dante’s Inferno. Hennig briefly worked for EA in the early 90s as first an artist on the SNES adventure title, Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City. After Chaos’ lead designer left, Hennig went on to take his place to finish the game’s development.

After Chaos in the Windy City was released, Hennig went onto Crystal Dynamics, where she helped design Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. She then became the writer, director and producer of its amazing and imaginative sequel, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. After Soul Reaver, she joined Naughty Dog where she originally contributed to the Jak and Daxter series. By her 10th year at the studio, she was in charge of the Uncharted series and was writing and leading development on the fourth Uncharted title prior to her departure.

Amy Hennig has also publicly announced her contentment on her Twitter about finding a new occupational home, returning to EA and working with such a beloved franchise with the following posts:

We look forward to seeing what Henning brings to the expanded universe, and are now even more excited for future Star Wars games than we already were. Somehow.
