Over the summer, legendary thrashers Slayer announced they had partnered with Dark Horse Comics to deliver three issues of the band's own comic series, Slayer: Repentless. More details have emerged about the first issue, which is set for release on Jan. 25.

The series will serve as an extension of Slayer's particularly gory and violent music videos from tracks off their latest record, Repentless. The cover art is a strong indicator that this will be a vein-splitting, over the top comic. The band has remained fairly hands-off, opting to let Metalocalypse writer Jon Schnepp, Twilight Zone artist Guiu Vilanoca and Eisner Award-winning cover artist Glenn Fabry (issue No. 1 has a variant cover from Eric Powell, known for his work from The Goon and Hillbilly).

"It's been my honor to chronicle the bloody road trip that is the Slayer comic series from Dark Horse / Nuclear Blast," said Schnepp. "Using the band's music and lyrics from their three decades of albums, while crossing over and through the Repentless music videos by BJ McDonnell, I have woven a tale of betrayal, hate, perspective, loyalty, family and murder that will need to be experienced through the comic books' pages." Fans can place their pre-orders for the first issue at the Dark Horse Comics webstore. To get familiar with the storyline that inspired the series, check out the music video trilogy spread across Slayer's "Repentless," "You Against You" and "Pride in Prejudice."

The band celebrated the initial announcement of the comic with an appearance at San Diego's 2016 Comic-Con with two exclusive signings and a special performance at the House of Blues.
