Family Asks Bono to Help Find Their Missing Daughter

An Irish family frustrated by the lack of attention given to the disappearance of their teenage daughter four years ago is turning to the one person they believe can give their tragedy the amount of publicity it needs: U2 frontman Bono.

The Sun reports that 15-year-old Amy Fitzpatrick went missing near the family’s vacation home in Spain on New Year’s Day 2008 and hasn’t been heard from since. Her mother and stepfather have been disappointed that Irish government officials have failed to pressure Spanish authorities to keep working on the case.

Amy’s stepfather, Dave Mahon, suggests that Bono has the clout to make Amy’s disappearance a national issue and help force those in power to keep investigating. Mahon says, “We do not want money. But it would be easy for Bono to do a show in Brazil, Ireland or England and say, ‘Amy Fitzpatrick is missing.’ The power those people have is what we want.”

Mahon and his wife have published a book called ‘Find My Amy’ in an attempt to keep Amy’s disappearance in the minds of the public.

There’s no word from Bono’s camp yet about the story. The 52-year-old singer has used the power of his fame for many humanitarian endeavors over the years, including fundraising for Amnesty International and campaigning for third-world debt relief. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on multiple occasions.
