More Information

Brenda Kay

Brenda Kay has a special talent. She has the ability to turn heads every time she sings. Whether Brenda is performing a solo acoustic song swap or with the band Caprock Drifters, the Abilene, Texas native delivers songs with a sweetness and passion that few can match. She can sing a cover song as if it were her own, and has a constantly growing catalog of heartfelt originals that draw compliments from fans as well as fellow singer/songwriters.

Brenda is one of a kind. Her musical influences don’t touch on any specific genre, creating a unique sound that is rooted in traditional country music. She is quick to share her influences, from Dwight Yoakam to Sheryl Crow, Johnny Cash, Shania Twain, Patsy Cline and several Texas Red Dirt singer/songwriters.

The influences show in her music, and creates an original style that is second to none. Her songs have just the right balance of originality, uniqueness, and they identify with regular folks.

BK has a natural connection with the stage. Since shortly after she was able to stand up, Brenda would take advantage of just about any opportunity to jump up to a stage and perform for any audience. Growing up, BK would showcase her talents at church, in clubs, talent showcases, and even on the community theatre stage. Quite simply, she has always been comfortable stepping up and performing in any setting.

After finishing college and moving back to her hometown, Brenda found her way to the Meatball & Tony Barker open mic night, where she quickly gained the confidence to pursue music as more than just a hobby. She was invited to sing live at a local Abilene radio station in 2008, and performed her lighthearted tune, “Weedeater”. The song was so popular and was requested so much after Brenda’s live performance, they had no choice but to play back the recording regularly.

She was just getting started.

Brenda Kay’s debut album, “Dirt’s Still Red” was released in Spring 2009, and by the time it was released, the title track to the CD had already cracked the Top 50 on the Texas Music Chart and Texas Regional Radio Report. On the strength of the radio recognition and the solid reputation of her live shows, Brenda and her band have steadily grown in popularity throughout Texas and beyond. And she maintained her popularity at home. At the end of 2009, the single “Dirt’s Still Red” had received more airplay on Abilene radio than any other Texas artist.

From all this success, the Academy of Texas Music rewarded Brenda Kay with a nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year in the 2010 Texas Music Awards. She has also made several television appearances, including performing for the annual telethon for the Ben Richey Boys’ Ranch and on the news feature show KTAB4u. And the requests for music and interviews continue to come in. BK has been on the airwaves all around the world, from France to Australia and numerous places in between.

As she works toward the completion of her second album, BK continues to play both acoustic shows and with the band Caprock Drifters. Brenda Kay’s songwriting ability also continues to evolve, and the new material promises to impress even more than the first time around. Expect Brenda Kay to bring out new levels of emotion and a deeper connection with her fans as she continues to make a lasting impression on the Texas music scene.
