Epica have unveiled their new music video for their single "Immortal Melancholy," off their upcoming EP The Solace System, due out Sept. 1 on Nuclear Blast. Best part? The video is animated.

"Immortal Melancholy" features scenes of some huge battle, and an ever shifting reality that powers out of a crystal. The video takes place after Epica's previous animated video for "The Solace System," following its story. Music wise, the group emphasizes the "symphonic" end of their metal, playing a sweeping arrangement that augments the violence in an interesting way. It all adds up to a killer experience sonically and visually, communicating the song's themes with ease.

Of the video, keyboardist Coen Janssen told Billboard, "There is one dimension that wants to take over all others by tricking them into opening a gateway through which the ‘Universal Death Squad’ can enter. In the upcoming videos, we learn if they will succeed.”

He continues, "The main thing I tried to do with the story is connect certain aspects of the album, artwork, live show and even previous albums. I love thinking in big concepts, and because it is an animated video, you can basically do whatever you like. [It’s] an easy way to connect the dots. I think the fans will get the connections and even find some Easter eggs that are hidden in the video.”

Epica will be embarking on a huge North American tour this fall with Lacuna Coil. Tour dates for that epic lineup can be seen here.
