Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has contributed a gentle new acoustic ballad to the ‘Every Mother Counts 2012′ benefit album.

Vedder puts down the ukulele and picks up his acoustic guitar on the new song ‘Skipping,’ a heartfelt ode to his children that even features a cameo from his daughter Olivia. The song will appear on the ‘Every Mother Counts 2012′ album — a portion of the proceeds from the album benefit the maternal health advocacy campaign of the same name.

“Eddie was amazing to accept this project while in the midst of so much,” Every Mother Counts founder Christy Turlington Burns tells Rolling Stone. “I spoke to him and exchanged several emails about his contribution. ‘Skipping’ is such a sweet song and I just love that his daughter Olivia has a little cameo at the start. He once wrote me saying that his girls would be proud one day that their dad contributed to such a meaningful project.”

Other artists featured on the album include Beck, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band and Alanis Morissette, as well as U2 members Bono and The Edge, all of whom contributed previously unreleased material. The disc will be available at Starbucks locations in the U.S. and Canada from May 1 – May 29.

Vedder is currently at work on a new album with Pearl Jam and will tour Europe and the U.S. with both the band and as a solo artist. Vedder’s solo works have previously been featured on the soundtrack for ‘Into the Wild,’ as well as his 2011 solo album ‘Ukulele Songs.’
