Incoming Freshman at Duke University were given a summer reading assignment (sucks to have to do anything BEFORE you even get to college). Some of declined to do so citing religious beliefs.  Bitch, please.

The book is a graphic novel called "Fun Home". It's the story of a closeted gay dad and his lesbian daughter. Sure it's edgy stuff. But seriously, how does reading something "offend your Christian beliefs". No one is asking them to be gay, agree with or even understand the source material.

Look at this awful passage:

There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

Oh wait. That's not from the book, Fun House, that's from THE BIBLE.

When you get down to it, the book Tom Sawyer is offensive. It contains MANY uses of the "N-word", but it is accurate representation of the time.  Duke University officials chose this  book Fun House to start discussions and arguments which they feel is essential for a liberal arts degree. I hope Duke will make an example of these kids and rescind their acceptance to the University. Students don't get to decide curriculum. If these students truly have a problem with this assignment, they should take their ideals and dollars and attend one of the many Christian colleges out there.
