In late April, it was revealed that Deftones frontman Chino Moreno had headed up yet another new project. Saudade is a an ethereal rock collaboration with members of Bad Brains, Cro-Mags and Crosses and with one song already released, Moreno has confirmed more is one the way.

Speaking with Team Rock, Moreno said Saudade have "12 to 13" new songs written, though they may not arrive in the form of an album. Adding a bit more detail as to what fans can expect from these tracks, he continued, "Most of it is instrumental. There may be some stuff with me singing on it, but mostly I'm just playing guitar. It's just fun. At this point it's not so much a band as a project. These are guys that I admire and I'm lucky to be friends with them – so we made a batch of songs together."

The first song, "Saudade" was released through Bit Torrent and the songs may find their way online individually in the future as Moreno noted, "Slowly but surely, they will probably come out – but it's more likely to be something that I leak out or let people hear, as opposed to something we'll package up and try to sell. That's not the idea behind it."

Rounding out the rest of the lineup is Dr. Know (guitar, Bad Brains), Mackie Jayson (drums, Bad Brains, Cro-Mags), John Medeski (keyboards) and Moreno's Crosses bandmate, Chuck Doom (bass).

In November of 2015, Dr. Know was hospitalized and in serious condition, even relying on life support for two weeks. The hospitalization initially stemmed from cardiac arrest, leading to organ failure. The guitarist is no longer in critical condition and fans have started a GoFundMe campaign to help with the icon's medical bills. Moreno provided an update on Dr. Know's status, stating, "He's actually getting better and he's in therapy right now to try and get back to normal, but it's looking very good. He'll be back in form, sooner or later."
