Sad news to report, as founding Dark Tranquillity member Martin Henriksson has left the band.

Henriksson has been with the Swedish metal band since the very beginning, originally playing bass in Dark Tranquillity along with acoustic guitar on the band’s first three records. Martin Henriksson began to focus strictly on guitar at the turn of the century, sticking to the instrument since recording 2000’s Haven. Despite his concentration on guitar for the majority of Dark Tranquillity’s career, Henriksson filled in to play bass on 2013’s Construct.

Dark Tranquillity announced Henriksson’s departure via Facebook to the dismay of fans. The statement includes a quote for the guitarist, claiming he has lost his passion for playing music:

There’s no word on what Henriksson will pursue next. Stay tuned for updates on Dark Tranquillity’s upcoming 11th full-length album.
