The Cross Plains public library was one of 78 libraries in America, chosen to participate in the ‘Big Read’ program. The library is set to receive an endowment for the arts. The ‘Big Read’ is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore and promote reading in America.

The Cross Plains library will receive a portion of the $1 million grant, that is to be divided amongst the libraries selected to participate, in the ‘Big Read’ for the 2012-2013 project. Library Director, Linda Burns said “We are so excited to receive this grant, and as a library, we are continually promoting reading and ‘The Big Read’ will enable us to reach out to readers in our local and surrounding communities. We want to rekindle their love for books through a variety of events that we are planning.”

October 1st, 2012 the library plans on re-naming itself the ‘Cross Plains POE-blic Library’ and proclaiming October as ‘Everything Poe’ month, it will feature ‘Great Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe.’ Already, the senior citizens center is set to host the Monday Morning Movie with free large-print books of Edgar Allan Poe’s works.
