Look for Courtney Love getting a musical makeover of sorts in January when the Hole vocalist and solo artist tests out her pipes as part of a pop opera. According to the New York Times, Love has been cast in one of the lead roles for the upcoming production 'Kansas City Choir Boy,' which will enjoy a brief 10-show run at New York's Prototype: Opera/Theater/Now Festival.

The show is set to run from Jan. 8-17 of next year and at present, Love's role has not been listed, but she is expected to be the female lead opposite composer Todd Almond.

Love says, "I love the concept and I'm loving the music. I'm playing it constantly. I'm looking to do things that are different. I just finished a rock tour of Australia and it was great but I've been doing that for a long time. I wanted to do something challenging."

Almond told the New York Times, "I've always been fascinated with her. I love her voice and I think she's a great actress. And I thought she would find the character interesting." The production will reportedly center on a concept album about an explosive young love tested by cruel fate, told in a series of flashbacks.

Admittedly, Almond says the show is not your traditional opera, explaining, "When I say 'opera,' I don't mean it's in an operatic style. I mean it in the sense that it's a group of songs that tell a story. I write musicals, I write plays and I write what I call opera."
