Could Halloween Become A National Holiday?
Oh, I'm so ready for this! Halloween as a National Holiday! I don't see any reason why not (okay, I see a lot of reasons why not, I just don't accept those reasons).
A petition was filed at Change.Org to make Halloween a national holiday. It's mostly tongue in cheek and has little chance of going anywhere.
Despite the lack of a chance at meaning anything in the long run, the petition makes some pretty good points.
Halloween is a cultural festival that is "a precious part of our national heritage." Halloween is probably the second most popular day of the year after Christmas. It's a BIG thing.
The petition takes some quick jabs at the anti-Halloween crowd, too. It seeks to eliminate homework on that day and the giving out of toothbrushes.
So how about it? What do you think of Halloween as a "paid national holiday"? Better yet, what do you think of my idea; making Halloween a "floating holiday" that happens the last Saturday in October (so it's always on a day when we can party)?
