Chaz Talks About His Stance on Gay Marriage

With the recent story of the Supreme Court hearing the first of two gay marriage cases, gay rights have come to the front of many people’s minds. In fact, many people are supporting gay marriage by changing their profile picture on Facebook to an equal sign. Well with that, I wanted to offer you my stance on gay marriage, or equality.

I have been friends with many people that are gay. I even have two uncles on either side of my family that are gay, and I couldn’t be any prouder of them. Was I surprised when they came out? You bet I was, but it never changed the way I felt about them. They have never pushed their lifestyle on me or anyone else. I figure as long as they are happy in what they are doing, then so be it. Who am I to judge them for just simply wanting to be happy, and to have that happiness and stability that other happy couples share?

I don’t care why they are gay or if it was a choice or whatever because, honestly, it’s none of my business.  I believe everybody, no matter age, race, sex or religion deserves to be happy in whatever they do in life, as long as they are treating others with respect.

Look, we have too many other things in this crazy world to worry about. We have high gas prices, taxes and other crap in this game of life that all seem to rise on a daily basis. Not to mention, we have soldiers dying in other countries and fighting a seemingly never ending war. And, I don’t know about you, but I have a mortgage, car payments, bills and my family to worry about. Even If I didn’t agree with someone’s right to be gay, I don’t have the time to worry about that. There is just other things going on that are more important.

My point is, whether you are gay, straight, bi-sexual, or whatever, it shouldn’t be anybody’s right to judge someone else. Look how long it has taken us as a society to accept and move on from the racial barriers that have kept us from all coming together as one – and even that still needs work.

You may judge me about my beliefs, but I will always cherish the fact that I am free to believe and support whatever it is I want. You have that right as well. But, nobody has the right to try to tell others how to live their life. In my opinion, the only one that does is ‘the man upstairs’.

So, that is my stance on gay marriage. If you don’t agree with me, that’s cool. Just keep in mind we are all free to believe and support what we want, just as long as we don’t bash others for their beliefs.
