Today’s celebrity cleavage belongs to a 46-year-old recording artist who has been a part of popular culture for over 25 years.

She was born in Gary, Indiana, where she was raised the youngest of ten children in a lower middle class family of devout Jehovah’s Witnesses.

In 1973, at the age of seven, she appeared on stage on the Las Vegas Strip in a routine show at the MGM Casino. Although she was initially a little apprehensive about starting a career in music, she eventually agreed to participate in recording sessions, which eventually landed her a recording contract at the age of sixteen.

Her debut record was released in 1982, with the entire production overseen by her father. The album peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot R&B albums chart.
