These days, most WWE-related talk is centered around the return of Brock Lesnar and the former UFC Heavyweight Champion’s impending match against John Cena at ‘Extreme Rules’ this Sunday. But just because the biggest happs are all going down on Monday nights doesn’t mean there isn’t some fun stuff to catch on ‘Friday Night SmackDown’ each week.
On this week’s ‘Monday Night Raw’ Brock Lesnar picked up the microphone for the first time since his return to WWE the week prior. But before we had much time at all to tweet mean jokes about the timbre of Lesnar’s not-so-threatening voice, he was interrupted by a fired-up John Cena. What followed was a confrontation that saw Lesnar make an absolutely humongous impact…by socking John Cena right in the mush.
As opposed to the normal pretape-on-Tuesday to air-on-Friday deal, this week’s ‘SmackDown’ ran live on Tuesday night, presumably as a way to clear the deck and rearrange everyone’s travel schedule for WWE’s impending European tour.
With one of the absolute best first segments in recent memory, this week’s ‘Monday Night Raw’ started out extremely promising. But apart from a great CM Punk/Chris Jericho segment and some Three Stooges slapstick that I am a little embarrassed to admit that I enjoyed far too much, the show was largely downhill from that colossal John Cena/Brock Lesnar brouhaha.
It was one night after an awesome ‘WrestleMania XXVIII,’ and WWE put on a solid, entertaining ‘Monday Night Raw,’ teasing several new directions and storylines for the promotion. And oh yeah, it also featured the return of former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock biscuit-eating Lesnar. Exclamation point.
