Will Duck Dynasty Get Cancelled?

Please do not let this show get cancelled!! It seems that my favorite TV family has hit a bump in the road. The cast of Duck Dynasty is in salary negotiations with the powers that be at A&E. I say "give'm what they want"! This is the best show on television and we can't lose it.

What’s Up With All The Pink and Red Equal Signs on Facebook?

If you've logged on to Facebook in the last day, you've probably seen a bunch of profiles sporting new pics... A pink equals sign on a red background. It's a symbol taken from human rights advocates (yellow equal sign on blue background) and made into a sign of support for same sex marriage/marriage equality.

Shay Shares Her Family Easter Egg Hunting Tradition

Easter is coming up this Sunday and I have been thinking a lot about my grandparents. Both of my grandmothers would have us over for Easter dinner and then out hunting Easter eggs. Since they have both passed on I have now taken up carrying on the tradition.

Chaz Talks About His Stance on Gay Marriage

With the recent story of the Supreme Court hearing the first of two gay marriage cases, gay rights have come to the front of many people’s minds. In fact, many people are supporting gay marriage by changing their profile picture on Facebook to an equal sign. Well with that, I wanted to offer you my stance on gay marriage, or equality.

Watch This Skydiver Fall 8,000 Feet Without a Parachute — and Survive

I'm not a skydiver, and I doubt I ever will be. But people who do parachute from thousands of feet up in the sky have my respect. It's scary stuff. You hear about skydivers falling to earth without a parachute to meet with terrible injuries or death. But this 51-year old dentist not only managed to survive his freefall to earth, he walked away with no more than a few bruises! Chalk it up to clean living, I suppose.

The Empty Bowls Project to Raise Money for Hunger is April 6th, at St. Paul’s UMC in Abilene

The Empty Bowls Project is a fundraising event where you pay $10.00 for a bowl of soup and some bread or crackers, and when you're done eating, you get to keep the bowl. All the bowls are one-of-a-kind hand crafted by artisans from around the Big Country and the Lone Star State. All funds raised go directly back into our community to feed the hungry, through church/community kitchens and/or pantries.

Supreme Court Hears First of Two Gay-Marriage Cases

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Hollingsworth v. Perry, the case that is challenging the constitutionality of California's Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage. It is the first of two gay-marriage-related cases the court will hear this week; on Wednesday it will hear arguments in United States v. Windsor, a challenge to the constitutionality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Some Texas Retailers are Starting to See Gun Inventories Being Replenished

The AR-15 is one of my top three favorite guns to shoot, but lately it seems that the gun and it's ammunition have gone through the roof. A friend called me from Dallas last Friday, he asked me if I still wanted an AR-15. I told him "yes but I'm not about to pay these absurd prices everyone is asking for AR's now, besides I'm in radio I can't afford it." AR-15's are selling for as low as 1,100 to 3,500 dollars, it's simple low supply and high demand. According to my friend Craig Stephens, there are several stores that are getting in some good shipments and the prices are down. A couple of stores in the DFW area are putting AR's out by the dozens.

The 2013 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits is Coming to Houston May 2-5

I have always dreamed of going to the Consumer Electronics Show and the famed Shot Show but both are held in Las Vegas every year. The cost of airfare, hotel accommodations, meals and tickets to each event make it almost impossible. However, The National Rifle Association (NRA) will be holding it's 142nd Annual NRA Meetings and Exhibits (NRAM) in Houston, and I know that I'll be asking my boss for the time off so that I can attend. The NRA show travels to different cities every year, this year it will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston, promising over eight acres of guns and gear.

Shay’s Summer Reading List for 2013

I love to read but I have to have the right book. I am currently reading "The Duck Commander Family" written by Willie and Korie Robertson. (I know, big surprise!)  I would like to read at least 5 books this summer so I'm already looking for great stuff that hopefully will intrigue me. As I did my research I was surprised to find so many 'classics' on the list as were many books that have recently been made into movies.
