Oscar Rose Park’s 100th Birthday Celebration is July 12th at the Rose Park

The City of Abilene and the Cultural Affairs Council are working together to bring a city-wide birthday celebration and event together this Saturday, July 12th at Rose Park. There will be tours of the Oscar Rose Park facilities, a fun run/walk thru the park, Happy Birthday cake and cupcakes, archery shooting, rollerskating, dunking booth, Bocce open court, bounce houses, swimming at the Rose park pool, live entertainment and lots more fun festivities. Abilene’s Safety City Summer Camp is July 21st – 24th

Space is very limited, so if you'd like your child to attend this years 'Summer Safety Camp' at the Melvin Martin Center for Children's Safety then sign up today. This year's first and only camp is set for July 21st through July 24th. Abilene Fire Department PIO Mike Miller says "space is very limited, and parents are urged to register their kids as soon as possible." This camp is only open to children going into the 2nd, 3rd or 4th grade when school starts in August.

The Texas Army National Guard’s “Lone Star Band” Will Perform at the Abilene Zoo June 28th

The Abilene Zoo is hosting the the Texas Army National Guard's “Lone Star Band” and the event is called a “Salute to America.” Zoo Marketing Director Kelly Thompson says "the Abilene Zoological Society has declared the concert in honor of the area’s first responders like: volunteer firefighters, sheriffs’ deputies, city police and fire departments, emergency medical services and the military, but the event is open to everyone who wants to attend."

Hail Storm Pummels Downtown Abilene as Rudy Fernandez Watches

As the ArtWalk parade was winding down Thursday evening, a weather alert came over the loud speakers of the radio station's van. We were parked in downtown Abilene when we were warned that the impending storm contained golf ball to baseball size hail. Within five minutes of that alert all hell broke loose. The Annual Hope and Help Ministries Health Fair, Blood and Donor Drive is June 28th

About 10 years ago, Hope and Help Ministries Founder Dale Morrison was given a bone marrow transplant because he had cancer. On Saturday, June 28th at the Annual Hope and Help Ministries Health Fair and Donor Drive, Dale will meet his bone marrow donor for the first time. The event will take place at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church starting at 8:00am. The health fair includes a blood donation drive, an organ donor drive and blood screening.

The “Ghost of the Bayou” a Rare 6 Foot Albino Alligator Visits the Abilene Zoo

A very rare six foot albino alligator known as the "Ghost of the Bayou" has made the Abilene Zoo it's temporary home. Bill Gersonde, executive director of the Abilene Zoo says “these animals cannot survive in the wild on their own, and this is a terrific opportunity to learn all about the American alligator.” Jenny the albino alligator made her debut on Saturday May 24th and will be on display through the summer. New Abilene Ordinance Affects the Firefighters “MDA Fill the Boot Campaign”

A new Abilene ordinance no longer allows "any on the street" collecting. Abilene and Dyess Firefighters are readjusting how they will operate their "MDA Fill the Boot Campaign." Abilene Firefighter and event organizer John Brunett said "due to the new city ordinance, we've changed locations and we will not be collecting on the streets for the first time in over 20 years."
