Call of Duty and Titanfall Co-Creator Forms Mobile Development Studio

Titanfall
Respawn Entertainment

One of the main men behind the Titanfall and the Call of Duty series has started a new studio that focuses on mobile gaming development.

Venturebeat reports that Vince Zampella, co-founder of Respawn Entertainment, has announced that he is joining Larry Pacey to form Nuclear Division, a mobile game studio. Zampella was the former chief executive officer of Infinity Ward, and was in charge of the studio as it made online, FPS gameplay immensely popular with the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 and 2.

Zampella will remain in his position in charge of Respawn Entertainment and will merely operate as a chief adviser and investor at Nuclear Division. Both Respawn and Nuclear Division are going to be located in the LA area, so Zampella will be in close proximity to both of his studios. Larry Pacey is the former product head of WMS, a slot machine making company. While this history may imply that he has a lot to learn from Zampella, Pacey was the executive vice president of global products and chief innovation officer at WMS when the company was sold for $1.5 billion to Scientific Games. Pacey served as an adviser to Scientific Games after its buyout of WMS this past fall. Zampella and Pacey claim that they would like to use this new gaming company as a forum to try out some new ideas in mobile development. Zampella has also noted his desire to keep the company pared down to his preferred development style of having small teams who are able to express their ideas freely.
