Brownwood is the home of the newest paddling trial in Texas. The Pecan Bayou Paddling Trail will officially open Thursday, March 12th. More and more American are canoeing, kayaking, rafting or paddling making it one of the fastest growing nature and tourism experiences around. The new Pecan Bayou Paddling Trail is the 63rd off Texas Paddling Trail.

The trail will be accessed from the Fabis Primitive Park. It can be paddled either as a 3.2 loop upriver and back from the park or as a 4 mile loop downriver, to the dam and back.

The slow-moving water way, which comes from rain and overflow from Lake Brownwood, will take you through beautiful scenery where you will see wildlife, 100 year old pecan trees, birds and more. You can fish for bass, crappie, catfish and bream. See year round birds like owls, heron, bluebirds, and woodpeckers or seasonal birds such as brown creepers, blue-winged teal and more.

The Texas Paddling Trail helps promote habitat conservation while providing recreational opportunities to the public.

The park will official be opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 12th at 10 am in Fabis Primitive Park. If you would like more information on the event or the park itself please contact the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce at (325) 646-9535. You may also view photos of the paddling trail here.
