Blur’s Damon Albarn Scheduled to Perform at Poetry Festival

Blur frontman Damon Albarn seems to be all over the place as of late. On one hand, he’s discussing the end of Blur and his other big project, the Gorillaz, and on the other he’s denying their disbandment. It’s now been announced that Albarn will appear at a poetry festival in London.

No one knows what Albarn will perform at the event organized by poet Michael Horovitz, which takes place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. However, it doesn’t seem like he will have any trouble fitting in. “Damon’s lyrics represent decent poetry, and he’s becoming more poetic all the time,” Horowitz tells the Telegraph. “He is very well read and likes poetry, including mine.”

Despite branching out to poetry, Albarn is still a musician at heart. He doesn’t want anyone getting the wrong idea or mislabeling him. “It will be pretty spontaneous, but he wants to be introduced as a musician, not a poet,” Horowitz says.

In related news, it’s been revealed that Albarn has stopped all recording of new Blur material. Producer William Orbit told NME that the band was in the studio when the sessions “suddenly” stopped three weeks ago.

“The new stuff sounded amazing,” Orbit, who worked with Blur on their 1999 album, ’13,’ claims. “Then it all stopped suddenly. It was all over with Damon, and the rest of the band were like, ‘Is this it?’”.

Blur will perform at Hyde Park in London this August to coincide with the closing of the summer Olympics.
