Back in 1970, Black Sabbath recorded one of the most well-known songs in metal history, "Paranoid." It has received countless accolades and has been named by numerous publications as one of the best songs of all time. But now the website Dangerous Minds has unearthed an obscure American garage band's song from the same era that has a similar riff.

Saginaw, Michigan's Half Life recorded the song "Get Down" in one take at a studio in Detroit in 1969. They tried to get local radio stations to play it, but were told it didn't have commercial appeal. It appears on the compilation A-Square (Of Course): The Story Of Michigan's Legendary A-Square Records.

While the riffs do sound familiar, Dangerous Minds is not accusing Tony Iommi and company of any nefarious activity. Black Sabbath were thousands of miles away from Michigan when they wrote "Paranoid," and it wasn't like they could listen to the track on Half LIfe's Bandcamp page in 1969. Check out both songs below and see if you can hear the similarities.

In other Black Sabbath news, Iommi says he plans to remix the band's 1995 album Forbidden for an upcoming reissue. He says, "I really like the album, but I was never happy with the overall sound, so I’m going to re-mix it before it comes out again. Can’t say when, too much going on right now.”
