BioShock Infinite, Grand Theft Auto 5 Lead VGX Noms

BioShock Infinite
Irrational Games

The nominees for this year’s VGX (nee Spike’s VGAs) awards have been revealed, and this year’s categories are packed with competition.

It’s been another banner year for gamers, with each console seemingly having a dozen real contenders for a game of the year, not to mention all the multi-platform releases vying for the same accolades. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 leads all titles with nine nominations, but BioShock Infinite is close on its heels with eight. Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us follows with seven nominations, and the only other major multiple nominee is Tomb Raider with five. All four are up for Game of the Year, alongside the yet-to-be-released Super Mario 3D World.

Other noteworthy hopefuls include Troy Baker, who is going up against himself in the Best Voice Actor category, and the entire Best Independent Game category, which features stand-outs like The Stanley Parable, Gone Home, Kentucky Route Zero and Papers, Please.

As per usual, there will also be new trailers and announcements, but this year the VGX will also have more in-depth looks at upcoming next-gen games and live demos broadcast during its three-hour runtime. We’ll be covering everything live as it happens, so be sure to check back on Arcade Sushi for the latest from the night’s events.

A full list of all the nominees can be found below. Spike’s VGX show will air on Dec. 7 starting at 6PM EST. If you don’t have Spike or cable access at all, the show will also be livestreamed on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Twitch, iOS and Android devices, and available globally on VGXLIVE.com, Hulu, Yahoo Screen, the Yahoo Screen app and Viacom properties Spike.com, ComedyCentral.com MTV.com, MTV2.com, BET.com and GameTrailers.com.
