BioShock Infinite Developer’s Classic System Shock 2 Coming to GOG

BioShock Infinite's Ken Levine and Irrational Games once released a game that blended shooter and role-playing game elements. No, it wasn't the first BioShock, but rather a game called System Shock 2, for which BioShock is considered a spiritual sequel.

And now players will be able to experience the game, maybe even for the first time, thanks to Good Old Games. According to Rock Paper Shotgun, GOG announced that it will be releasing the classic first-person shooter on February 14th, 2013, which is the perfect time to play a survival horror shooter.

The game features a soldier who ends up on an experimental faster-than-light (FTL) ship called the Von Braun and is confronted by a whacked out artificial intelligence named SHODAN. Think of SHODAN as a proto-GLaDOS that existed in the late '90s, because crazy female AI never goes out of style and are always capable of striking fear into our hearts. SHODAN is responsible for infecting a planet, the Von Braun, and the Rickenbacker escort ship via eggs. The infection turns everyone on board into a sort of alien zombie hive mind.

If that doesn't sound intriguing, then we clearly don't know the meaning of the word. A countdown on GOG's website indicates how long it will be until the game's available for download at 11:00 AM GMT. The game will be priced at $9.99 and can be picked up right here.
