The Best Places to Go Swimming in Abilene

Abilene is very fortunate to have some great swimming pools. Here’s a list of awesome pools for you to cool off in, during the dog days of summer.

Abilene State Park Pool

The Abilene State Park pool has undergone a major renovation and will be open from Saturday, May 28th for Memorial Day Weekend, until Sunday, August 14th. It’s the oldest pool in the Big Country, operating since 1934 and tons of fun.

State Park Pool

  • Open Wednesday – Sundays
  • 11:00 am – 7:00 pm
  • $2 adults 13 and up pool admission
  • $1 kids 12 and under pool admission
  • $5.00 per person 12 and up park entry
  • $70.00 TSPP yearly pass
  • Rent for after hours

Rose Park – Pool

UPDATE: On July 30th Abilene’s most popular pool closed for the year so that the construction of the new ‘Rose Park Pool and Aquatic Center’ could begin.

The new pool update includes a leisure pool with a ‘beach-like’ entry, a lazy river, some water slides, shaded areas, new restrooms and concessions area.

Rose Park pool operated a very short season in 2016, from Saturday, June 4h until Monday, July 29th. ‘Doggie Splash Day’ is July 30th only.

The new pool is expected to open in time for the 2017 swim season. For more about the Rose Park Pool, visit the City of Abilene website.

The Abilene Swim Club is a “private members only” pool. Non-members can swim but must be accompanied by a member. If you would like to be a member, only a few memberships are available.

The Swim Club pool is the only pool with a high dive in Abilene, this eight foot high diving board has lots of takers climbing the ladder. It also has a great kids slide and an awesome tree covered picnic area.

The Dive Spot

UPDATE: August 20th, 2016 Lylte Shores Swim Club is closed for regular swimming. However it remains open for swim lessons, scuba lessons and private party rentals.

Abilene’s best kept swim secret, is the Dive Spot and Lytle Shores Swim Club. The Dive Spot pool has a kiddie-pool, sand volleyball court, tennis court, basketball goal and a jungle gym with swings.

The YMCA Indoor Pools

The YMCA has what it takes to run a pool, a great staff and awesome facilities. The indoor pools are great during cold/freezing weather. However, during 100 degree days, the ambient room temperature at the pool was just as hot as outside.

  • $50 joining fee plus
  • $71 family membership fee per month
