Now, when Frank Pain and I decide to grab some lunch, usually we go to surrounding restaurants like Taco Bueno, Burger King, Sonic, McDonalds, or any number of cheap and fast places. (Hey, we’re DJs, so eating cheap is a way of life!)
With that said, it would be easy for me to tell you all the great deals and cheapest places to eat using those fast food restaurants because most, if not all, now have value menus plus most of us eat at those fast food places during the week anyway. Don’t get me wrong, those places are great, but I wanted to go a little bit further than just fast food and share with you some of my favorite places that serve delicious food for a cheap price. So, here are some of the best cheap restaurants in Abilene – Top 10.
Chili’s is number 1 on my list for a reason. I simply love the heck out of Chili’s! Everything from their chips and salsa, to burgers, or from grilled fajitas to their baby back, baby back, ribs are awesome! My mouth is literally watering right now thinking about it. Chili’s lunch specials hooks you up with their lunch combos for $6. You can throw down a fajita chicken toasted sandwich or quesadilla’s or any number of things with home style fries for $6. That’s a cool deal. Right now, if you join their email club, you can get free chips and salsa. Chili’s have two locations in Abilene, 4302 South Clack Street and 1702 Texas 351.
Coming in at number 2, for me, is Rosa’s Cafe. Their tortillas are made fresh in front of your eyes and are some of the best I have eaten. If you haven’t heard about Rosa’s taco Tuesday’s, you have got to be living under a rock. Three chicken or beef tacos, crispy or soft, plus rice and beans for only $3.69 EVERY Tuesday! Plus, they have a free salsa bar. The only thing else they need is a cot to lay down later after I have scarfed down their entire inventory of tacos. Rosa’s has two location in Abilene at 1026 North Judge Ely Boulevard and at 3333 Catclaw Drive.
Abilene is not short on good BBQ places, but Harold’s Pit Bar-B-Q offers up some of the best – anywhere! Texas Monthly listed Betty Rose’s as one of the best 50 BBQ joints in Texas. Considering how many BBQ places there are in Texas alone, that is quite an accomplishment. Betty Rose’s does have some great BBQ, but did you know that you can get that great BBQ for a cheap price? If you become a fan on facebook, you can get 10% off your next meal. Not only that, but they offer up $1 chopped sandwiches every Thursday at their Judge Ely loaction. Friday and Saturday’s, Betty Rose’s lays down an all you can eat cat fish buffet for $9.49. You can definitely eat cheap at Betty Rose’s with two locations, 3362 Rebecca Lane or 1095 North Judge Ely.
If you like Italian food, Johnny Carino’s has some great Italian food which you can get at a cheap price. Right now, get all you can eat pasta and salad for $8.99 during their “Pasta Harvest”. You can also get unlimited soup, salad and fresh bread for $5.99. On Monday nights, you can get half off of the family platter, which is usually $25, and feed 3-4 people at about $4 per person. Another cheap way to dine out in Abilene. Johnny Carino’s is at 4157 Buffalo Gap Road.
Red Robin has become one of my favorite cheap places in Abilene to eat. They have great gourmet burgers and, by the way, make a great Bloody Mary – I’m just saying. Anyway, most burgers range from $7-$9 and kids $4. Order a water to drink and those bottom less fries will more than fill up your belly! Don’t forget that campfire sauce. Red Robin is at 3549 Catclaw Drive and offers, yet, another cheap place in Abilene to eat.
Another one of my favorites, mainly because I can chunk peanuts all over the place, is Texas Roadhouse. They have their “early dine” specials Monday thru Friday before 6p.m. and before 3 p.m. on Saturdays where you can choose from 20 meals for $7.99. I’m talking sirloin steak, pulled pork, grilled BBQ chicken and more for less than $8! Each meal is served with bottomless fresh-baked bread and two made from scratch sides. Check out Texas Roadhouse at 1381 S. Danville Road.
Eat fresh and cheap at Subway with their $5 foot long sandwiches everyday. What better combination than to get a cheap meal AND eat healthy. Subway offers several foot long sandwiches like their Cold Cut Combo, B.L.T, Spicy Italian and more for only $5! Healthy and light on your wallet, eat cheap at Subway who have several locations in Abilene.
What’s better than wings? Cheap wings at Buffalo Wild Wings! Every Tuesday, Buffalo Wild Wings have 45¢ wings and on Thursday you can get boneless wings for 60¢ per wing. Grab some napkins, a nice cold beverage and get messy with some cheap wings at Buffalo Wild Wings 4401 Ridgemont Drive.
I like Golden Coral. I mean where else can you get the best of all worlds at for around $10? Their salad bar has just about everything in the world on it so if your wanting to eat healthy, that is always a plus. Their fresh baked rolls are awesome and they cook up just about every entree known to mankind that is made from scratch. Want a cheap meal that includes just about everything?
