Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock Speaks at Rally After Adam Yauch Park Vandalized With Swastikas + ‘Go Trump’ Graffiti

Beastie Boys legend Adam ‘Ad-Rock’ Horovitz rallied over the weekend to protest swastikas mixed with pro-Donald Trump graffiti sprayed in late bandmate Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch’s memorial Brooklyn park.

Following Donald Trump’s presidential victory, swastikas and a message of “Go Trump” upset many who visited Adam Yauch Park, a place where the Beastie Boys MC often played as a child.

City workers painted over the graffiti, but New Yorkers decided to bring love to the park, posting paper hearts and adding flowers to where the anti-Semitic imagery used to be. Someone even paid tribute to the immortal words of Woody Guthrie, “This Machine Kills Fascists,” with a slight change:

Yesterday (Nov. 20), Ad-Rock gave a speech at Adam Yauch Park for hundreds of supporters. “Spray painting swastikas in a children’s playground is a messed-up thing to do,” he said. “And for many of us, it has special meaning, because this park is named for Adam Yauch, who was my friend and bandmate for over 30 years. But he was also someone who taught non-violence in his music, in his life—to all of us, and to me.”

Horovitz continued, “Keep your eyes open, stand up for each other, don’t be afraid to step in or enlist the help of others, because this is homegrown terrorism for real. I reject Donald Trump’s vision of America. New York City, I’m asking you to do the same.”

Ad-Rock encouraged those in attendance to give to organizations like Planned Parenthood and The United Way of Flint, Mich. and to volunteer if possible.
