8 Unintentionally Hilarious Horror Movies

Basket Case Still

There’s no better theatrical experience than a really frightening horror movie. The looming feeling that something terrifying might be lurking around every corner makes you to sit on the edge of your seat in spine-tingling anticipation. The problem is that not all horror movies hit that mark. Unfortunately sometimes a horror movie is so far from scary that it turns into something completely hilarious. Here are 8 of the most unintentionally hilarious horror movies you will ever see.

‘The Happening’

What could possibly go wrong with a sci-fi horror film about nature turning on humanity? Quite a bit, apparently. M. Night Shyamalan’s disaster of a movie included scenes of large groups running from the wind, and Marky Mark trying to negotiate with what turns out to be a plastic plant.

‘Basket Case’

While I tried not to focus too much on the ‘80s since it was full of such easy targets, there’s no way you can ignore the hilarious concept of ‘Basket Case.’ A young man carries around his deformed Siamese twin brother in a wicker basket. To their dismay they were surgically separated and have chosen to kill the doctors who performed the operation. Shockingly there were two sequels.

‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation’

It’s almost like Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger were competing to see who could look more ridiculous in the most forgettable installment in the franchise. There were years of complications and re-edits that ended with this dud being debuted in 20 cities in 1997. As hilarious as it turned out to be, that was 20 cities too many.

‘The Unborn’

Even if you can find a way to look past the ridiculously bad special effects, you’ll be slapping your forehead non-stop at the plot points, including the main character not realizing she had a grandmother. There’s an exorcism that takes place because she’s afraid she may be possessed soon. I’m no priest, but I don’t think that’s how an exorcism works. The story only gets more ridiculous from there, if you can believe it.

‘Halloween Resurrection’

After the definitive ending of ‘Halloween H20,’ executives decided to try and squeeze a few more dollars out of the franchise by making this absolute joke. Michael Myers is defeated by Busta Rhymes doing karate. How was that written in the script? More importantly, why was that written in the script?

‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’

Don’t Be Afraid

While ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ starts out eerie, it quickly becomes hilarious as the “evil creatures” turn out to be what looks like disgruntled treasure trolls. The creatures play pranks and chat way too much to even be considered scary.

How would anyone ever consider this movie to be scary? An alien worm comes to earth and takes over human bodies, giving them awful British accents. It’s astounding that Morgan Freeman agreed to be a part of this train-wreck.

‘The Wicker Man’

A movie that may have solidified Nicholas Cage as the worst actor of our generation,’ The Wicker Man’ is full of hilarious scenes that come to a horribly fantastic climax when Cage has a contraption put over his head and then has it filled with bees. If that was the take that got chosen for the film, can you even imagine how bad the footage on the cutting room floor could be?
