The 24th annual “Run For The Wall” is a bike ride, as in motorcycles, across the U.S. from California to Washington D.C. to show support, honor and respect for our military. There will be between 400-500 motorcycles passing through Abilene on I-20 this Saturday, May 19th. This will be something special to see.
Abilene is a unique community with our ties to the military and Dyess Air Force Base. We have a great fondness of our military personnel that will be celebrated this weekend at the Abilene Zoo’s, Zoolute to Dyess day. Join in all fun activities Saturday, May 19th.
I’ve watched a couple of the episodes of the National Geographic TV show “Doomsday Preppers” and I have to say I’m a little intrigued and frightened at the same time. I’m from the school of thinking that if something happens to wipe out the world then I don’t really think I would want to survive myself. However, I try to watch the show with an open mind but some of what the “preppers” do is a little crazy and dramatic in my mind.
The Social Security Office has released the most popular baby names for 2011. There were 10 boys names and 10 girls names listed. It seems that the names often reflect celebrity name trends. While “Elvis” was off the list in 2010 it was back in the top 1000 for 2011.
As a cancer patient I am now paying more attention to information about ways to fight or prevent the disease. If and when I run across something I might want to try I ask my oncologist what his thoughts are on the subject. Needless to say, after watching this video, I will have some questions for him next week at my appointment.
I had a remote broadcast this afternoon and those give you quite the opportunity to “people watch” and interact with the public. As I stood outside overlooking the parking lot near HEB I observed many peoples parking experiences...
Mother's Day is upon us once again and that means putting the thinking cap on and getting mom something nice to let her know how much you appreciate her. There are a few gifts that are on the 'no,no' list when it comes to Mother's Day though. While you may think they are thoughtful and practical Mom will not see them as such. To help you out here are a few things to “not” get mom this Mother's Day.
The Western Heritage Classic is back this Thursday through Saturday bringing lots of fun and visitors to the Abilene area. The event has been bringing ranchers, rodeo cowboys and spectators to Abilene since 1985. It didn’t have the name “Western Heritage” at the time and it was a small 5 event competition for some local ranch hands. Over the years the event has grown to be a major part of the spring line up at the Taylor Co. Coliseum and brings in some of the biggest and best ranches around to compete for honors and braggin’ rights.
Graduation time is here again. Seems that this school year went fast, then again I’m not the one hitting the books every night. We have 3 local universities and 1 college with graduations this weekend.
