ACU Presents ‘Les Miserables’ the Musical October 18th-20th

The Abilene Christian University 2013 homecoming musical is 'Les Miserables', it's based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo. Adam Hester, the chair of the Theatre Department at ACU said "the deep, spiritual messages in Les Miserables make this the musical I’ve been waiting to do for almost 30 years". Dawne Meeks, ACU Theater professor says "while most of the classics may be a bit heavy for kids, I recommend  'Les Miserables' for most children ages 10 and over". Tickets are on sale now.

The 18th Annual Oktoberfest in Rising Star is Scheduled for October 12th

The 18th Annual Rising Star Oktoberfest celebration will take place at Colquitt Williams Park in Rising Star. The event is scheduled for October 12th, beginning at 8:00am and will include a dance, live music, a cook-off, "Jack Pot Pinto Bean" and pecan pie baking competitions. All monies raised benefit the Rising Star Chamber of Commerce.

The Annual ‘Let’s Move Day 5k’ is Scheduled for Sunday, September 22nd at Red Bud Park in Abilene

Join the fun and begin living a healthier life style. The Seventh Day Adventists Church is hosting their annual 'Let's Move Day 5k' walk/run at Red Bud park. The event helps draw attention to the childhood obesity epidemic in America while raising money for the 'Adventists Step for Life' program. It promises to be a day full of fun festivities like puppet shows, games, air castles and a 5k walk/run.

It's time for the third annual West Texas Rehab/Hospice of the Big Country Tim Hamilton Memorial Golf Classic. The tournament will be at the Abilene Country Club and is open to the the first 30, four person teams. Director of Donor Relations Dan Huggins said "anyone can sign up whether you have a 4 person team or not, we can put you with other players to form a team."

Center for Contemporary Arts is Hosting “Thanks for the Memories” Artwalk for Abilene Alzheimers Assoc.

The Center for Contemporary Arts along with the other downtown art galleries and museums will host a special "Thanks for the Memories" Artwalk, Thursday, September 12th in Abilene. The Abilene Alzheimer Association and Wisteria Place personnel will be on hand to answer questions and display the paintings by Alzheimer's patients. The art work done by Alzheimer patients will only be on display during Artwalk. See what else is happening.
