Hurricane Strength Winds Hit Abilene Leaving a Trail Of Destruction [PICTURES]

I knew the minute the NOAA weather guys said that these storms are capable of producing winds up to 70 miles an hour that Abilene and the Big Country would be seeing some serious damage. When the storm was over I went out to see what was the banging the side of my house when I noticed, trees were up-rooted and had broken branches I also saw shingles spread out all over my yard. I looked around to see which neighbor lost their roof, only to discover those shingles were off of my house.

The Plowboy Mud Bogs Return to Roscoe Texas Saturday, July 6th

Roscoe Mud Bog organizers are getting down and dirty to raise money for Roscoe's Little League Association and the Roscoe High School Cheerleaders. Saturday July 6th, the Roscoe little league baseball field will be the location for the annual "Roscoe Plowboy Mud Bog." Mud Bog organizer Felix Pantoja said "last year with the radio stations help we had just under 2,000 attendees and participants in what has become the funnest event that Roscoe Texas has ever seen."

“Ride for Our Warriors” Motorcycle Rally is Scheduled for June 1st at Kent’s Harley-Davidson in Abilene

The intersection of Catclaw and Southwest Drive will be very busy on Saturday, June 1st, as Kent's Harley-Davidson hosts the "Ride for Our Warriors" motorcycle rally, to benefit the "Wounded Warrior Project." “Cars 4-A Cure” Car Show and Dance to Benefit MDA is June 15th in Abilene

The "Cars 4-A Cure" car show, dance and cruise benefits the Abilene Firefighters Association's Fill the Boot campaign for MDA. The a car show will feature lots of muscle cars and will take place at the Gattis parking lot at 2668 Buffalo Gap Road, Saturday, June 15th. Prizes and trophies will be awarded that afternoon.

I have several family members graduating from high school this year. As I try to keep up with who is graduating when and where. I thought I would get organized this year and put together a "graduation services list." Last year I went to the Abilene High graduation when my nephew was graduating from Cooper High School. I swore that wouldn't happen again. So, here's the list for the services that will be taking place in Abilene. That said, I'll see you there I'll be the one with the air-horn in hand.

This year marks the 31st annual Cinco de Mayo celebration in Abilene at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church. Abilene's biggest Cinco de Mayo is the love and labor of the St. Vincent's parishioners. Pascual Mirelez owner of Mirelez Productions says "this is a family friendly event that features a softball tournament, dozens of food booths, bounce houses, children's games, bingo, adult games and lots of live music. The event is mostly free with the exception of food and games."

Places in Abilene to Take a CHL Course

While collecting all the information for this blog, I discovered the  differences between all of the concealed handgun license (CHL) classes. All of the following  will cover the minimum legal requirements, while others help you with your getting your photo and fingerprint credentials and all the necessary paperwork. The prices ranged from $69 up to $150 just for the CHL class. The big difference is who is teaching it, where it's being taught and with some , since it's an all day event some include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Class sizes range in size too, from 6 to a class up to 25 to 30 per class. Here's the list.
